History
Founded in 1801, Clinton was originally name Burrville, in honor of Aaron Burr, but by 1809 had been renamed, the disgrace of the Burr-Hamilton duel instigating it. Parks & Recreation

Mission Statement: The Clinton Parks & Recreation Department offers a variety of activities for each member of the family to enjoy. One of the main goals of the department is to improve recreational opportunities for all Clintonians and to allow each of them the opportunity to maximize use of their leisure time for recreational enjoyment.

The Parks & Recreation Department have a variety of recreational facilities available to our citizens. As our city continues to grow the department is making every effort to comply with its' leisure needs with organizing or assisting various groups with community events such as: Autumblast, Christmas Events, Clinton City Schools Field Days, and may other events.

One of the most unique aspects of the Clinton Parks & Recreation Department is its' relationship with the many athletic commissions throughout the city, which provides recreational sports activities for adults and children in baseball, softball, basketball, football, volleyball and bowling.
